SMS Welcomes New Principal
Sunnyvale ISD’s Board of Trustees recently named Brandon Tunnell Sunnyvale Middle School’s new principal.
"Brandon’s student-centered approach to learning is an excellent match for our middle school,” Superintendent Doug Williams said.
Mr. Tunnell is an experienced administrator who joins SISD after serving as an assistant principal at Cain Middle School in Rockwall ISD. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal at Community High School. He also spent several years in the classroom in Forney ISD and Lubbock ISD.
“I have known for many years the great reputation that Sunnyvale ISD has and I have always wanted to be a part of the amazing things taking place within the school district and community,” Mr. Tunnell said. “I also know, as a Sunnyvale parent, how awesome this district is for students and their families.”
Brandon is not the first Tunnell to join the SISD family. His wife, Lisa, is the Health Science Technology teacher at SHS and is the sponsor of the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) organization. The Tunnell’s two sons, Matthew and Thomas are first graders at SES.
“Being able to see how much my own boys, Thomas and Matthew, love coming to school everyday and hearing my wife, Lisa, share success stories about her students only affirmed my desire to be a part of the SISD family,” Tunnell said. “So when the opportunity arose for me to be able to become part of this innovative and inspiring team, I jumped at the chance.”
Mr. Tunnell looks forward to furthering SMS’ status as a cutting-edge campus.
“Sunnyvale Middle School has a great reputation for being innovative and I am extremely excited to be on the team that will keep the momentum going,” he said. “Our lessons will continue to be engaging and collaborative, in order to create innovative and inspiring experiences for both our staff and students. We will continue to support our phenomenal teachers and enable them to grow their innovative teaching practices. This will allow our students to receive an education that will prepare them for whatever fun and exciting things the future may hold for them.”
Mr. Tunnell and his wife, Lisa, have three children: Matthew and Thomas, who are first graders and a baby girl named Emily. The family lives in Forney.
